The Masters programme in "State Management and Humanitarian Affairs" is designed to provide post-graduate students, including members of public or private bodies, with the preparation necessary to professionally deal - in regional, national and international institutions - with policies and good governance, as well as the strategic management of:
- public, private and no-profit organisations
- prevention and management of crisis
- human security and human rights.
It is part of a wider "University Regional Programme in South Eastern Europe" promoted, as from 1999, by the University of Rome "La Sapienza". The first edition of the biennial Masters (2001-2003) was supported by the United Nations, the Italian Ministries of Education, University and Research, of Foreign Affairs, and of Defence (DIFECIV and SFOR - Peace Force in Sarajevo). From October 2003, more than one hundred students from South Eastern Europe have already been granted the title of Masters.
Academic years 2008-2010
The Masters programme 2008-2010 has the duration of three semesters.
The Universities of Belgrade, Rome "La Sapienza" and Sarajevo have established a cooperation agreement to jointly run this Masters and to validate the joint final certificate which awards 90 (30 per semester) credits ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). Students may register in one of the three partner Universities, according to the country's specific administrative and financial regulations.
The Master in "State Management and Humanitarian Affairs" is a second level Masters (BAC+4+1 or BAC+3+2) and only holders of a university degree of at least four year duration preceded by at least 13 years of schooling (or 12+5) can be admitted. There are no conditions with regard to nationality and gender.
The Masters courses are in English and therefore good command of the English language is necessary, of a second EU language desirable.
Classes and tutorised work begin in January 2009 and end in December 2009: attendance is obligatory. Seminars, workshops, international and residential activities, visits to institutions and organisations will be organised, an internship (or other activities) and the drafting of a project-work will conclude the preparation.
The third semester (January-June 2010) will be devoted to the internship and the preparation of a related project work
In July 2010 students will be granted the title of Masters after positive evaluation of their performance, attendance and the defence of the project work. The title of Masters with Honours will be granted to the students with an outstanding overall performance.

The Masters programme 2003-2004, of one year duration, is co-financed with a special fund for the internationalisation of the Italian University system made available by both the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research.
